Mykonos is a very cosmopolitan island, famous for its whitewashed buildings and windmills.
You will mix and mingle with Mykonos celebrities, college students and families while exploring the island. The capital town (Hóra) of the island has narrow marble streets to stroll around and admire whitewashed houses with colourful doors and window frames, bougainvillea trees in purple bloom and hidden churches. The shopping streets of Hora are busy and contain brand name stores as well as charming cafés and stylish restaurants.
On the lively waterfront, you can sit and admire the fishing boats and reflections in the azure waters.
Alefkántra or “Little Venice”, is an 18th century district, dominated by grand captains’ mansions with colourful balconies and stylish windows. The balconies are perched over the sea much like the famous Italian city. Take some time to Relax at a waterfront café and admire the view of the quaint windmills which are imposingly on the hillside above and set against the luminous blue sky and ocean blue backdrop.
You can also Explore the island on a caicque or a boat and discover secluded beaches, or take a boat tour around the nearby islets, which are also ideal fishing spots!
What about food?
You will find many local Aegean specialties in the various restaurant on the island. Pepper flavoured kopanistí, a soft cheese seasoned with pepper, is the island’s gastronomic trademark. You will also find traditional fare such as gyros, grilled meats, fresh fish, octopus, calamari, and Mediterranean salads. Yummy!
