4 Fabulous Reasons to Travel Solo

You are not alone; it’s not scary; and some of the best adventures are outside of your comfort zone.

Do you really want to look back on your life and see how wonderful it could have been had you not been afraid to live in?” – Caroline Myss

1. Embracing Your Life- It’s not scary! The first time I traveled alone I was scared. But, I thought- just do it. You don’t know if you will travel this away again. So, I went, and I loved it. Imagine setting your own agenda and changing it as the mood suits you. You can change plans with one vote! Tour groups do make it easier to see the sites as a solo traveler. You will be surprised how many solo travelers you meet on these tours. It turns out that lots of Europeans travel solo. Wo knew? One of my fellow travelers on the Vatican City tour was from Denmark and she travels all the time solo. She said “if I want to go somewhere and no one wants to join me I just go. Why wouldn’t I? “ Why indeed? Set your own pace and your own itinerary!

“Traveling solo does not always mean you’re alone. Most often, you meet marvelous people along the way and make connections that last a lifetime.” – Jacqueline Boone

2. Make New Friends and learn from them- You are not alone! On my Rome trip, I booked a hotel (Hotel Lancelot http://www.lancelothotel.com) that had an interesting approach to food. Hotel Lancelot offers a wholesome buffet breakfast to start the day where you can meet fellow travelers to get advice and discuss plans. A special feature of the Lancelot is the "Arthurian round tables" of the breakfast room/restaurant. Guests from all over the world meet and converse on sightseeing and share interesting experiences. For dinner, guests can enjoy round table dinners offering a three-course evening meal prepared with fresh local produce and served with complimentary wine for a very reasonable price. At both dinner and breakfast in the hotel, I met people from all over the world at these nightly dinners. Guest from China, Poland as well as fellow Americans spent three wonderful hours each night in the hotel courtyard enjoying wonderful food, wine and conversation. We laughed, swapped stories and talked about what brought each of us to Rome. The people and the experience were truly marvelous!

Life begins at the end of your comfort zone. – Neale Donald Walsch

3. Stretch Yourself. The Best adventures are outside of your comfort zone!

Solo travel is a great way to conquer the world and boost your confidence. I find when I travel solo that I enjoy free time being myself, learning and seeing what is important to me. I always come away feeling empowered like I can do anything that I set my mind too.

Don’t ever accept anyone else’s preconceived limitations. If there is something you want to do, there isn’t any reason you can’t do it. Amy Dodson

4. Master of Your Own Destiny… Captain of Your Own Ship

Solo travel is a great way to stay within your budget. I find when I travel with friends or family I spend more than I intend too. When I travel alone, I have my budget and I stick to it. No one to lead me off the budget path!
